The Janitor

The Janitor is both a monster who appears in the dark world as well as a character seen working at Midwich Elementary School. He is portrayed by Roberto Campanella.

Storyline

The janitor works at Midwich Elementary School when he sees nine-year-old Alessa Gillespie hide in the second floor bathroom from her classmates. Seeing an opportunity, the janitor then sexually assaults the child. Whether he is arrested or even reported or not is unknown.

Sometime after Alessa splits and creates Dark Alessa, the janitor is killed by her and appears to have been sexually tortured before his death. His body is found tied up in the same stall he assaulted Alessa in, with his feet tied to his head with barbed wire, blood on the toilet beneath him, and iv drips hanging next to his body. When the dark world falls, the janitor "wakes up" and begins to crawl around the bathroom floor, screaming in pain as he moves.

Representations

The janitor represents what he did to Alessa in many ways,

• His feet are tied to his head, forcing him to crawl along the floor on his genitals. This is seen as a symbol of his sexual punishment for what he did to Alessa.

• Barbed wire covers his eyes, preventing him from ever looking at a child in a lustful way again.

• Everything he touches turns to decay, possibly representing an STD.
